Job summary

The City of Gainesville, FL is hiring entry-level Transit Operator staff to learn and operate revenue service vehicles per schedules. You will gain hands-on driving experience, manage farebox interactions, and deliver courteous customer service to riders.

The role requires learning safety protocols, completing reports, and potentially pursuing a CDL with endorsement. Schedule may include varied shifts and on-site responsibilities with the transit team.

Qualifications

• Three (3) verifiable, consecutive years of driving experience.
• Pre-employment medical examination and drug screening may be required.
• Ability to learn transit operations, routes, and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Learns to operate agency revenue service vehicles safely on assigned routes.
• Manages farebox transactions and records passenger data by fare type.
• Acts as first-line customer service representative for riders and maintains a clean, safe environment.
• Completes required accident, incident, and other reports and assists passengers with boarding and disembarking.
