Job summary

City of Gainesville's Public Transit is seeking entry-level Transit Operators to safely operate revenue service vehicles and serve riders along busy routes. You’ll learn the skills to provide timely, courteous service while adhering to schedules and safety rules.

As a frontline representative, you will collect fares, assist passengers, perform vehicle inspections, and respond to incidents under supervision.

Qualifications

• Three (3) verifiable, consecutive years of driving experience.
• Pre-employment medical examination required, including satisfactory drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Safely operates agency revenue service vehicles on assigned routes under various conditions.
• Manages farebox transactions and records passenger data by fare type.
• Collects fares and issues transfers; checks validity of passes and IDs.
• Acts as first-line customer service representative, maintaining positive rider relations and assisting boarding/disembarking.
• Performs pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections and records deficiencies.
• Responds to emergencies and reports incidents to Control Center as needed.
• Operates disability access lifts and assists wheelchair patrons; secures mobility devices.
