Job summary

City of Alexandria, LA is seeking a transit driver to safely transport passengers on established routes according to a schedule. You will operate a 35,000‑pound vehicle, collect fares, and provide courteous customer service under supervision.

Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED and hold a valid Class B CDL with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement within 60 days of hire. Prior transit experience preferred for this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; experience in transit operations preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class B commercial driver’s license.
• Must obtain Louisiana Class B CDL and endorsements (passenger, air brakes) within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate a 35,000 pound vehicle on an established route according to a time schedule.
• Pick up and discharge passengers.
• Drive safely, maintain vehicle control, and obey traffic regulations.
• Provide courteous customer service and assist passengers.
• Collect fares from and interact with passengers.
• Report delays, mechanical problems and accidents; respond to emergencies.
• Complete daily records and logs and receive safety information.
• May operate an ADA accessible van.
