Job summary

Manatee County Government is seeking a Transit Operator to transport citizens by bus or van on assigned routes, maintaining schedules and safety. You will communicate with passengers, assist with transfers, and document daily operation data.

Requirements include High School diploma or equivalent, a Class B CDL with passenger and air brakes endorsements, and successful completion of CDL skills and DOT medical evaluations. 21+ and pass background checks are also required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Five years driving experience or two years commercial driving experience.
• Class B CDL with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement required prior to conditional offer.
• Must pass CDL skills test within six weeks; pass DOT physical and Level 2 background check.

Responsibilities

• Operate county passenger bus or van on an assigned route per schedule, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.
• Collect fares, issue transfers, provide route information and assist passengers, including wheelchairs as needed.
• Record daily operation data, mileage, passenger counts, and prepare required reports.
• Maintain passenger safety by enforcing conduct rules and inspecting the vehicle for hazards.
