The purpose of this position is to provide driver supervision, dispatch drivers, process daily driver receipts, maintain driver leave records, and prepare daily work schedules for the City of Wausau Metro Ride Transit Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares driver work schedules. Posts schedules.Processes daily driver receipts and prepares bank deposits.Dispatches drivers.Investigates and interacts with law enforcement, schools and parents regarding behavioral issues on transit system. Dispatch appropriate discipline under Transit guidelines.Provides fixed-route bus and paratransit information.Schedules rides for the paratransit program.Observes and documents driver performance.Investigates and responds to public complaints and inquiries.Investigates and prepares documentation of all accidents and reporting.Operates transit bus when necessary. Fills driver vacancies due to illness, emergencies, etc.Maintains records regarding driver leave requests and balances.Provides instruction and training to bus operators.Additional Duties and Responsibilities- Provides customer information over the telephone.
- Delivers and picks up mail and other correspondence from city hall.
- Delivers student tickets and tokens to sales outlets.
- Makes presentations to groups, agencies and organizations.
Education and Experience Requirements- Associate Degree, and
- Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience, and
- Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Wisconsin Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements within 12 months of hire
- Previous transit operations experience is preferred
A combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in this position may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Basic knowledge and ability level with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to compare, count differentiate, measure and sort information. Ability to assemble, copy, record, classify, compute, tabulate, transcribe and categorize data and information.

- Ability to utilize a wide variety of advisory and design data and information, such as driver leave requests and records, accident reports, daily driver reports, incident reports, work schedules, ticket/transfer count sheets, operator’s manual, labor contract, personnel policies, safety manual, regulations, non-routine correspondence, computer software operating manuals, ordinances and general operating manuals.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with department personnel, law enforcement personnel, other City department personnel, and transit patrons.
- Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, and calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to use functional reasoning in performing influence functions such as supervising, managing, leading, teaching, directing, and controlling.
- Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory and/or judgment criteria.
- Ability to operate, maneuver and/or steer equipment and machinery requiring simple but continuous adjustments such as a transit bus, coin handling machine, computer keyboard/terminal, calculator, telephone, photocopier, fax machine, and computer printer.
- Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing skilled movements such as rapid keyboard use.
- Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, typically involving lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
Physical and Working EnvironmentLimited exposure to disagreeable elements such as dirt, temperature fluctuations, and/or limited exposure to weather conditions. Limited travel within the City of Wausau. Normal mental and visual attention is required. Light physical demands to include bending, twisting, turning, and light lifting. Limited exposure to workplace hazards.

This position is classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible for overtime. Starting annual rate DOQ.
This is a non-union position.
