Job summary

HDR is seeking a Transit Intern for the Los Angeles area to support transportation project engineering on-site. The role is part-time (about 20 hours/week) and mentored by a licensed engineer, with opportunities to work on both urban and rural transit projects in Southern California.

Responsibilities include assisting with technical reports, specifications, and calculations, and collaborating with project engineers.

In the role of Transit Intern, we’ll count on you to:

  • To provide project engineering/project delivery support with a focus on transportation projects and public transportation clients throughout the Southern California Region
  • Work on a team with other project engineers on the detailed design of urban and rural transit projects.
  • Provide assistance with the creation and submission of technical reports, specifications and calculations.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

The ideal candidate will commit to working approximately 20 hours per week on‑site, working alongside and receiving mentorship from a licensed engineer. This position does not offer remote work.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Previous work experience with Metrolink, LA Metro, OCTA, or similar client projects (studies and design)
  • Local candidates preferred
  • Experience with MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
