Job summary

City of Janesville is seeking a part-time Transit Maintenance Helper to support heavy-duty diesel bus operations and facility upkeep. Under direct supervision, you will fuel, wash, and park buses, and assist with building/grounds maintenance at the garage and transfer center.

Responsibilities include assisting with seasonal tasks such as snow removal, acting as a limited fill-in driver during emergencies, and helping full-time staff with shop duties, with regular evening and weekend hours as

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum three years driving experience required.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license required.
• Must possess valid Commercial Driver Learning Permit prior to hire if not licensed.
• CDL with passenger endorsement or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Fuel, wash, clean, and park transit buses.
• Perform building/grounds/facility cleaning and maintenance at garage and transfer center.
• Assist with seasonal work such as snow removal and bus cleaning.
• Assist full-time maintenance personnel with shop duties.
• Serve as limited fill-in bus driver during emergencies.
• Open fuel line and complete related paperwork when needed.
• Open Transit Services Center and prep buses for service on Saturdays.
• Close and secure facility and vehicles when full-time staff unavailable.
• Assist with special projects and after-hours duties as required.
