Job summary

City of Janesville seeks an experienced transit bus operator to serve on designated routes, ensuring safety and reliability for riders. You will handle fares, provide route information, and perform pre-trip inspections as part of your daily duties.

The role requires a valid license and driving experience; candidates with CDL passenger endorsement are preferred. You will join a team committed to safe, courteous service for Wisconsin’s Park Place residents.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum three years’ driving experience is required.
• Must have a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• If not fully licensed for commercial driving with passenger endorsement and no air brake restrictions, must possess a valid Commercial Driver Learning Permit and present to Human Resources upon hire.
• Possession or ability to obtain and maintain a CDL with passenger endorsement and no air brake restrictions within 60 days of hire.
• Excellent driving record, as reported by DMV.
• Excellent prior work record.
• Experience transporting passengers is desired.
• Customer service experience is desired.

Responsibilities

• Daily bus driving on designated routes as assigned.
• Conducts operations with safety as the top priority.
• Provide excellent customer service to the public.
• Handle fares, provide route/schedule information, perform pre-trip inspections and paperwork.
• Assist with fuel line and custodial duties as needed.
• Perform seasonal assignments (snow removal, cleaning, signage).
• Secure mobility devices safely on buses.
• Perform other duties as assigned or during non-business hours.
• Respond to disaster or city emergency operations when required.
