Job summary

The City of Janesville is seeking a transit maintenance/support position, under the Maintenance Supervisor, to perform garage duties for heavy-duty diesel buses and related tasks. The role includes fueling, cleaning, and basic shop duties, with occasional bus driving in emergencies.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 3+ years driving, and a valid driver’s license; willingness to obtain a passenger-endorsed CDL within 60 days. Regular hours include evenings and some Saturdays.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum three years driving experience is required.
• Must have a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• If not licensed for passenger-endorsed commercial driving, obtain permit and present to HR.
• Must obtain CDL with passenger endorsement within 60 days of hire.
• Excellent driving record as reported by DMV.
• Must be 21+ years old.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily fueling, washing, cleaning, and parking of transit buses.
• Performs building/grounds/facility cleaning and maintenance at garage and related areas.
• Assists with seasonal work such as snow removal and bus cleaning.
• Supports full-time maintenance staff with shop duties.
• Acts as a limited fill-in and bus driver in emergencies; assists drivers on routes as needed.
• Operates fuel line and handles related paperwork when full-time staff unavailable.
• Opens and closes Transit Services Center on scheduled days.
