Job summary

Via is seeking a Mechanic (Class A) on the Operations team to diagnose, repair, and maintain buses and support vehicles. The role is on-site five days a week, with occasional evenings and weekends as needed, and requires hands-on problem solving and the ability to read schematics and maintenance manuals.

The position emphasizes safe, reliable fleet operations, with a focus on accurate documentation and teamwork with the Maintenance Manager to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

• Must have hands-on experience with medium/heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.
• Comfortable reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Proficient with diagnostic tools and able to learn new maintenance software.
• Detail-oriented with accurate work orders and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on transit vehicles and support equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections per DOT and manufacturer standards.
• Respond to road calls and on-site breakdowns to minimize service disruption.
• Use diagnostic software and diagrams to isolate issues and verify repairs.
• Complete accurate work orders with labor, parts, and root-cause notes.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
