Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) seeks a Fire Marshal for the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to enforce FRA, OSHA, NFPA, and NYS codes, adapting fire safety programs across facilities and rolling stock. The role ensures public and employee safety, guides emergency planning, and coordinates with police, fire, EMS, and OEMs.

The incumbent will supervise inspections, incident investigations, training delivery, and documentation, while serving as AED Coordinator and liaison with regulators.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Engineering or related field; or 4 years equivalent Fire Marshal experience.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as Fire Marshal or equivalent.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in fire/life safety emergency response.
• Certified as Firefighter I; completion of NIMS 700, 100, 200, 300, 400 curriculums.
• Knowledge of FRA, OSHA, NYS Code, NFPA standards and applicable laws.
• Experience conducting fire/life safety inspections.
• Strong communication, analytical and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Implement and assess programs to comply with FRA Part 239 Passenger Train Emergency Preparedness.
• Inspect rolling stock for emergency instructions, signage, equipment and lighting.
• Conduct building code compliance reviews and oversee fire safety inspections.
• Manage AED program and Hazardous Materials handling practices.
• Represent LIRR at incident command and coordinate with external agencies.
