Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) seeks a Civil/Construction Inspector to protect LIRR interests during construction and maintenance performed by outside contractors. The role requires daily inspections of operations on or near the LIRR Right of Way, and inspections of the physical plant such as bridges and stations.

The position emphasizes record keeping, safety compliance, ongoing training, and collaboration with the Engineering Department.

Qualifications

• Must possess effective oral and written communication and organizational skills.
• Must possess a valid Class D Driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspection of NYSDOT, Third Party contractors, or LIRR in-house forces during construction operations on or adjacent to LIRR ROW.
• Inspect the physical plant of the LIRR; bridges, stations, platforms, culverts, tunnels, retaining walls, etc.
• Maintain neat and accurate records, diaries, and daily reports of progress on all projects; monitor budgets.
