Job summary

Arcadis is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer in Chicago to support field administration and construction oversight on transit and rail projects. You will assist the Senior Resident Engineer in ensuring contract compliance, safety, and schedule adherence within active operations.

Ideal candidates have a civil engineering background, 8+ years in related roles, and experience with Primavera P6, Bluebeam, and MS Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field required.
• Professional Engineer license preferred; EIT with clear path toward PE licensure will be considered.
• Minimum of 8 years in construction management, resident engineering, field engineering, or inspection-related roles.
• Transit/rail project experience preferred, including passenger facilities and active operating environments.
• Experience with public transit agencies like CTA or Metra is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support the Senior Resident Engineer with day-to-day field administration and contractor coordination.
• Track submittals, schedules, permits, testing docs, and ensure timely approvals.
• Attend meetings with contractors, facility staff, designers, and agency reps; prepare minutes.
• Verify inspections, testing, and quality docs; file records and logs.
• Monitor progress against construction schedule and flag delays or outages.
• Assist with change orders, field directives, and cost/schedule impacts.
• Support review of pay applications; verify quantities and progress against contracts.
• Gather field reports, photos, testing records for submissions; assist closeout deliverables.
