Job summary

The City of Commerce is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support transit operations by cleaning and servicing public transit vehicles and facilities. Under supervision, you will perform inspections, check fluids and tires, and assist with routine maintenance tasks.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of maintenance experience, plus a valid CA driver's license. A Class B license with passenger endorsement must be obtained within one year.

• Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license and safe driving record.
• Must obtain a Class B license with passenger endorsement within one year.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, washes and maintains transit vehicles and facilities.
• Performs daily vehicle inspections; checks fluids and tires; fuels as needed.
• Delivers replacements for out-of-service vehicles and retrieves them.
• Reports operational problems to supervisor and identifies repair needs.
• Maintains shop, yard and equipment in clean, orderly condition.
• Recognizes, avoids and reports unsafe acts, conditions, and injuries.
• May learn routine maintenance like lubrication, oil changes, and tire changes; may assist on more complex repairs.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Under general supervision, provides basic maintenance duties in support of transit operations including cleaning and performing basic maintenance services on City of Commerce's public transit vehicles.

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

• Cleans, washes and performs basic maintenance services on public transit vehicles and facilities.
• Performs daily vehicle inspection prior to beginning service; cleans interior and exterior ofvehicles; checks vehicle fluids and tires; adds fuel and fluids as needed.
• Delivers replacements for out of service vehicles, and retrieves out of service vehicles.
• Reports any operational problems to the supervisor in a timely manner; identifies andreports vehicle problems requiring additional maintenance and repair.
• Maintains shop, yard, and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
• Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
• May learn to perform routine maintenance services such as lubrication, oil changes, and tire changes; may assist and learn to perform more complex equipment maintenance and repair duties.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent GED AND One (1) year of general maintenance experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license and safe driving record.

Must obtain a Class B license with passenger endorsement within one (1) year.

Special Requirements:

Must pass a background check.

May be required to work overtime, and evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet departmental standards.
