Job summary

The City of Charlotte’s Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) seeks an Engineering Manager to provide technical leadership for capital delivery, system modernization, and infrastructure upgrades across rail, bus, facilities and utilities.

The role oversees project programs, coordinates with internal departments and external partners, ensures governance and documentation, and guides staff toward safe, efficient and maintainable engineering outcomes for the region.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, systems engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering or related environments.
  • Licensed North Carolina PE or equivalent with reciprocity ability within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering programs, projects, or workstreams with design review and implementation support.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, planning, safety, procurement, asset management, and finance.
  • Oversee engineering reviews of plans, specs, reports, and calculations.
  • Support procurement, consultant, and contractor activities and turnover into operations.
