Position Overview

AASC is seeking reliable, compassionate, and professional Transit Drivers to join our dedicated team. You will provide safe, dependable transportation services that support seniors in maintaining independence across Tazewell, Russell, Dickenson, and Buchanan Counties, VA. Positions are available in each county and drivers are usually assigned to locations within their local service area. Indicate the county or counties you are interested in when applying.

Position Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively.
• Previous experience preferred.
• Job requires some lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to pass DOT physical, drug and alcohol test, and criminal background check.
• Transit drivers that provide services for PACE will be required to have at least one year of experience with the elderly.
• Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is preferred but not required.
• Training will be provided on operating the vehicle, passenger assistance, First Aid, CPR, wheelchair lift operations, etc.

Summary of Duties

Provide needed passengers with assistance on and off vehicles, maintain safe operation, transport riders of all ages to various destinations, and may provide services as authorized by the PACE Interdisciplinary Team.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Transport riders/passengers to and from approved destinations.
2. Assist riders boarding and unboarding when needed.
3. Use proper techniques in assisting passengers, including those in wheelchairs.
4. Ensure proper vehicle maintenance, keep vehicle clean and in good operative condition.
5. Observe safe-driving practices as outlined in Four County Transit's Safe Driving Policies.
6. Pick up and return participants according to a predetermined schedule developed by the PACE Transportation Supervisor.
7. Provide updates on participant problems or concerns to the PACE Transportation Coordinator.
8. Collect fees/contributions with proper reporting.
9. Report any unacceptable behavior or the use of profanity on the vehicle.
10. Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters pertaining to riders or the agency.
11. Refrain from the use of the vehicle for any personal reason.
12. Maintain accurate transportation records as identified by the supervisor.
13. Complete and submit accurate reports in a timely manner.
14. Attend and participate in all required training.
15. Demonstrate and maintain good work ethics.
16. Adhere to all applicable agency policies and procedures.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.
