Job summary

Zephyr Rail is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to support the administration of complex rail and transit contracts. You will blend field inspections with office-based contract administration, ensuring compliance with specifications and proper documentation.

This role offers a clear path toward Resident Engineer responsibilities on multi-million-dollar projects. You will review contractor work, prepare change orders, and help resolve contract issues while maintaining progress pay estimates

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
• EIT registration required.
• Approximately 5 years of experience in construction or construction management for transit projects.
• Valid California Class C driver’s license.
• Rail experience (track, systems, or facilities) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observe contractor operations to ensure safety of the traveling public and compliance.
• Review contractor operations for Cal/OSHA compliance.
• Maintain records of contract documents, progress, expenditures, and schedules.
• Monitor construction activity for quality and plan compliance.
• Assist with day-to-day administration of contracts (pre-con meetings, weekly meetings, inquiries).
• Prepare contract change orders and evaluate field conditions for redesign.
• Identify need for changes and draft supporting documents.
• Review CPM schedules and manage project risks.
• Prepare monthly progress pay estimates and quantity tracking.
• Assist Resident Engineer with schedules, disputes, and claims.
