Job summary

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County is seeking a Transit Bus Repair “A” to thoroughly diagnose and repair revenue vehicle components, including air brakes, suspension, and electronic engine controls. The role requires independent work under a Mechanical Foreman, with emphasis on safe, efficient repairs and accurate reporting.

Candidates should have 4+ years of relevant repair experience, a Texas CDL P endorsement, and the ability to read gauges and use diagnostic software.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; related technical school preferred.
• Four or more years mechanical repair experience on heavy-duty equipment or five years on automotive/light-duty equipment.
• Valid Texas CDL “P” endorsement required; able to obtain CDL if not already held.

Responsibilities

• Performs Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMI) on revenue fleet.
• Inspects and tests defective equipment to troubleshoot malfunctions of major components.
• Diagnoses and repairs air brake systems, suspension, steering and alignment.
• Uses laptop and HVAC software; reads gauges and battery/charging analyzers.
• Serves and diagnoses Multiplex Systems using test instruments like ID Reader/Writer; reads ladder logic charts.
• Assists in servicing, diagnosing exhaust after-treatment systems and electronic engine controls.
• Assists in servicing, diagnosing, and troubleshooting Hybrid and Alternate Fuel Propulsion Systems.
• Inspects dimensions, clearances, and torque; road tests vehicles when needed.
• Completes reports and records timely; may supervise mechanics as assigned.
• Participates in METRO Training Program; promotes safety and PTASP compliance.
