Job summary

WMATA is seeking a General Transit Bus Garage Mechanic to perform skilled vehicle maintenance, including troubleshooting, disassembly, repair and installation of engines, transmissions and chassis for WMATA’s bus fleet.

You will follow established procedures, perform major repairs, use specialized test equipment, and complete documentation; respond to emergencies and work various hours and locations.

Qualifications

• Performs basic to complex maintenance on WMATA vehicles to ensure safety and reliability.
• Operates, maintains and repairs WMATA vehicles and equipment following established procedures.
• Executes major repairs on designated components and analyzes problems for safe operation.
• Performs major engine work using technical diagnostics.
• Adheres to safety regulations and maintains proper documentation.
• Utilizes test equipment and completes forms and tags.
• Responds to emergencies to safeguard WMATA vehicles and provide customer service.
• May involve heavy physical labor and varied shifts, locations, and days.
