Transfusion Services Technical Lab Assistant

Job Summary

The TLA demonstrates the ability to perform phlebotomy and various technical and clerical functions in the Laboratory based on campus needs. Responsibilities include routine laboratory procedures involving blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids, which may be contaminated with infectious diseases such as HIV and bloodborne pathogens. The role requires customer focus, teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, communication, and personal excellence.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. 70% Phlebotomy and specimen processing, adhering to safety and infection control practices. Providing customer service to clinicians and clients. Communicating professionally with physicians, clinical staff, laboratory associates, patients, and their families.
2. 15% Managing computer-related tasks (e.g., LIS, e-Source).
3. 5% Training new employees and students.
4. 5% Ensuring regulatory compliance (e.g., National Patient Safety Goals, CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, Laboratory Policies).
5. 5% Maintaining competencies and mandatory education (ACE). Performing miscellaneous tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Driver's license and auto insurance (if applicable).
• 6 months to 1-year experience in phlebotomy and/or specimen processing.
