Transfusion Services Technical Lab Assistant

Job Overview

The TLA demonstrates the ability to perform phlebotomy and various technical and clerical functions in the Laboratory, based on the needs of the individual campus. Responsibilities include routine laboratory procedures following established guidelines, handling blood, tissue, and other body fluids, with proper safety measures for infectious materials.

Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Phlebotomy and Specimen Processing: 70% of duties, including adherence to safety and infection control practices, customer service, and communication with clinicians, patients, and families.
  2. Computer-Related Tasks: 15%, such as LIS and e-Source management.
  3. Training: 5%, including onboarding new employees and students.
  4. Regulatory Compliance: 5%, ensuring adherence to standards like CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, and laboratory policies.
  5. Competency Maintenance: 5%, including mandatory education and miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Driver's License with active auto insurance (for those in skilled nursing settings)
  • 6 months to 1 year experience in phlebotomy/specimen processing
