Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a Transfusion Safety Officer (TSO) to lead education and active surveillance of transfusion practices beyond the lab. The TSO will enhance patient blood management, drive quality improvement, and foster research collaborations across departments to exceed current standards.

The role is Exempt, requires RN Texas licensure and a bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing, with 2 years of clinical nursing experience in a tertiary health care setting.

Qualifications

• RN with Texas licensure required.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing.
• Two years of clinical nursing experience in a tertiary health care setting.
• Experience in transfusion medicine or performance improvement preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promote transfusion safety through education and surveillance.
• Educate nurses and physicians on blood transfusion practices and informed consent.
• Collaborate with departments to implement patient blood management strategies.
• Track quality metrics and support performance improvement initiatives.
• Serve as subject matter expert on transfusion safety within the organization.
