Job summary

RMS Energy Co, LLC is seeking a Transformer Technician I to support transformer assembly, oil processing, and on-site service across the United States. You'll work with transformers from various OEMs at power plants, substations, and industrial facilities, assisting with installation, maintenance, and repair in a safety-first team.

Ideal candidates have up to one year of related experience, solid basic computer skills, and the ability to travel up to 80%.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 80%.
  • DOT physical exam pass required.
  • Background check and pre-employment drug tests required.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work at heights up to 100 ft.
  • English proficiency for safe communication in noisy environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble transformer components such as radiators, bushings, and conservators.
  • Perform degassing, pressure, and vacuum testing using dehydrator units.
  • Re-gasket units and fabricate gaskets or O-rings when needed.
  • Assist with teardown and preparation of transformers for transport or disposal.
  • Identify and resolve basic wiring and mechanical issues.
  • Complete assigned tasks and daily work orders accurately and on schedule.
  • Inspect and operate tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment safely.
  • Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements when working near noise, electrical hazards.
  • Support the sales team by reporting project opportunities and potential customer leads.

Job description

We’re looking for Transformer Technician I candidates who are ready to begin or continue their careers in transformer assembly, oil processing, and on-site service for critical energy infrastructure across the U.S. In this hands-on field role, you’ll assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of transformers from various OEMs at power plants, substations, and industrial facilities. You’ll work in a supportive team environment and have the opportunity to grow within a fast-paced, safety-first organization.

What You’ll Do
  • Assemble transformer components such as radiators, bushings, and conservators
  • Perform degassing, pressure, and vacuum testing using dehydrator units

The Experience We’re Looking For
  • Up to one year of experience in transformer oil processing, service, or assembly
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and online platforms
  • Clear and professional communication skills with the ability to follow instructions
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while meeting team objectives
Additional Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel up to 80% across the continental U.S.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical exam
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Availability for extended or irregular hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Physical capability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights exceeding 100 feet, operate in confined spaces, and perform duties outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Good vision, hearing, and English proficiency to ensure safe and effective communication in noisy environments
Bonus Points For
  • Experience with transformer oil filtration, testing, or disassembly
  • Possession of a Class A CDL, OSHA training, or a TWIC card
  • Holding a DOT medical certification
  • Familiarity with transformer components, control wiring, or oil filtration
  • Experience using shop equipment, electrical tools, or test platforms
  • Knowledge of transformer teardown or disposal preparation procedures
  • Previous work experience with energized equipment or substations
