Job summary

RMS Energy is seeking a Transformer Technician II to join our field service team. You will participate in transformer assembly, oil processing, and on-site service at power plants, substations, and industrial facilities.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and hands-on problem solving while contributing to critical energy infrastructure. You’ll travel across the continental U.S., operate within a fast-paced environment, and report opportunities to the sales team.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years in transformer oil processing, service, or assembly.
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently while meeting team objectives.

Responsibilities

• Assemble transformer components (radiators, bushings, conservators).
• Perform degassing, pressure, and vacuum testing using dehydrator units.
• Re-gasket units and fabricate gaskets or O-rings as needed.
• Assist with teardown and preparation of transformers for transport or disposal.
• Identify and resolve basic wiring and mechanical issues.
• Complete tasks and work orders accurately and on schedule.
• Inspect and operate tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment safely.
• Follow safety protocols and PPE requirements; travel as needed.
• Support sales by reporting project opportunities and potential leads.

We’re looking for aTransformer Technician IIwho is ready to begin or continue a career in transformer assembly, oil processing, and on-site service for critical energy infrastructure. In this hands-on field role, you’ll assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of transformers from various OEMs at power plants, substations, and industrial facilities. You’ll work in a supportive team environment and have the opportunity to grow within a fast-paced, safety-first organization.

What You’ll Do:

• Assemble transformer components such as radiators, bushings, and conservators
• Perform degassing, pressure, and vacuum testing using dehydrator units
• Re-gasket units and fabricate gaskets or O-rings when needed
• Assist with teardown and preparation of transformers for transport or disposal
• Identify and resolve basic wiring and mechanical issues
• Complete assigned tasks and daily work orders accurately and on schedule
• Inspect and operate tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment safely
• Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements when working near noise, electrical hazards, and at elevated heights
• Support the sales team by reporting project opportunities and potential customer leads

The Experience We’re Looking For:

• 2 to 5 years of experience in transformer oil processing, service, or assembly
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and online platforms
• Clear and professional communication skills with the ability to follow instructions
• Self-motivated and able to work independently while meeting team objectives

Additional Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED required
• Valid driver’s license
• Willingness to travel up to 80% across the continental U.S.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical exam
• Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
• Legal authorization to work in the United States
• Availability for extended or irregular hours, including weekends and holidays
• Physical capability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights exceeding 100 feet, operate in confined spaces, and perform duties outdoors in all weather conditions
• Good vision, hearing, and English proficiency to ensure safe and effective communication in noisy environments

Bonus Points for:

• Experience with transformer oil filtration, testing, or disassembly
• Possession of a Class A CDL, OSHA training, or a TWIC card
• Holding a DOT medical certification
• Familiarity with transformer components, control wiring, or oil filtration
• Experience using shop equipment, electrical tools, or test platforms
• Knowledge of transformer teardown or disposal preparation procedures
• Previous work experience with energized equipment or substations
