Job description

Transformer Technician - Oil Processing

We’re looking for candidates who are primarily responsible for cleaning, filtering, dehydrating, and degassing transformer oil to ensure transformers operate safely and reliably. They will operate specialized oil processing equipment, perform oil sampling and testing, support transformer maintenance and commissioning activities, and work in substations, power plants, and industrial facilities to maintain the health of high‑voltage electrical assets. You’ll work independently or as part of a crew to ensure reliability, safety, and customer satisfaction.

What You’ll Do:
  • Perform degassing, pressure, and vacuum testing using dehydrator units
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot oil processing equipment, including vacuum dehydration systems and filtration units
  • Conduct oil sampling and collect specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Perform oil fills on new transformer installations and during maintenance outages
  • Maintain proper oil levels and monitor transformer pressure and temperature conditions during processing activities
  • Assist with teardown and preparation of transformers for transport or disposal
  • Complete assigned tasks and daily work orders accurately and on schedule
  • Inspect and operate tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment safely
  • Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements when working near noise, electrical hazards, and at elevated heights
  • Support the sales team by reporting project opportunities and potential customer leads
The Experience We’re Looking For:
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in transformer oil processing, service, or assembly
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and online platforms
  • Clear and professional communication skills with the ability to follow instructions
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently while meeting team objectives
Additional Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel up to 80% across the continental U.S.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical exam
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre‑employment/random drug tests
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Availability for extended or irregular hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Physical capability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights exceeding 100 feet, operate in confined spaces, and perform duties outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Good vision, hearing, and English proficiency to ensure safe and effective communication in noisy environments
Bonus Points for:
  • Experience with transformer oil filtration, testing, or disassembly
  • Possession of a Class A CDL, OSHA training, or a TWIC card
  • Holding a DOT medical certification
  • Familiarity with transformer components, control wiring, or oil filtration
  • Experience using shop equipment, electrical tools, or test platforms
  • Knowledge of transformer teardown or disposal preparation procedures
  • Previous work experience with energized equipment or substations
