Job summary

Abilene ISD is seeking a dedicated special education teacher to provide learning activities and experiences for students with diverse needs, aiming for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. You will develop or modify curricula, prepare lessons, and work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacities, collaborating with staff and ARD/IEP teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements.
Knowledge of students with special needs in the assigned area.
Familiarity with ARD process and IEP goals.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the district curriculum and show written evidence of preparation.
Prepare lessons reflecting accommodations for individual differences.
Present subject matter according to TEA guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology to meet diverse learning styles.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Supervise instructional aides and volunteers; oversee completion of assignments.
Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community.
Participate in staff development activities and comply with regulations and policies.
