A transfer station operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a waste transfer station, including directing customers to appropriate disposal areas, operating heavy machinery like front-end loaders and compactors, monitoring waste streams for hazardous materials, maintaining cleanliness of the facility, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, all while assisting customers with proper waste disposal procedures and promoting recycling efforts.

Key Responsibilities

• Customer service: Guiding customers to designated areas for waste disposal, checking loads for prohibited items, and answering questions regarding recycling guidelines.
• Equipment operation: Operating heavy machinery like front-end loaders, compactors, tipping floors, and truck scales to efficiently manage waste transfer.
• Waste sorting and monitoring: Identifying and managing hazardous waste, ensuring proper segregation of recyclable materials, and directing customers to appropriate disposal areas.
• Facility maintenance: Cleaning and maintaining the transfer station grounds, equipment, and buildings, including minor repairs.
