Job description

Dispatch Energy is an independent power producer focused on distributed generation (sub-20 MW; predominantly 1–5 MW) across multiple technological verticals. We operate over 60 MW today with ~200 MW contracted in development across battery storage, fuel cells, combined heat and power (CHP), solar, and wind.

Role Overview

The Transactions and Origination Associate works alongside our origination team to evaluate, negotiate, and execute distributed energy transactions, including behind-the-meter BESS and other flexible distributed capacity solutions. The Associate negotiates commercial terms with customers and counterparties alongside the originators, builds financial models, and helps manage power-marketing activities and ongoing broker relationships.

Regulatory, policy, and energy-market analysis is a central focus. The Associate translates market developments into business opportunities and practical recommendations for origination, partnering with finance to develop financing structures and with legal, engineering, and development teams to advance transactions.

Key Responsibilities
Customer & Counterparty Negotiations
  • Participate directly in customer and counterparty negotiations alongside the origination team, presenting commercial terms, evaluating trade-offs, and working through open issues. Help develop negotiating positions, pricing, and deal structures, and coordinate follow-up through agreement.
  • Build and maintain financial models to evaluate project cash flows, returns, and deal pricing. Run scenarios and sensitivities for tariffs, incentives, market revenues, costs, and financing assumptions, and use the results to inform negotiations and investment decisions.
  • Manage the development economics of greenfield battery storage projects, including behind-the-meter BESS installed on site at the distribution level, updating project models as site conditions, design, interconnection, costs, and schedules evolve. Partner with development and engineering teams to evaluate trade-offs and inform on-the-ground decisions on project sizing, design, development spending, and timing.
Broker Relationships & Power Marketing
  • Share day-to-day responsibility for broker relationships and recurring deal flow. Coordinate opportunity intake, review commercial information, discuss pricing and terms, and maintain responsive follow-up with brokers and the origination team as transactions progress.
  • Assist with power marketing for virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) and capacity purchase agreements. Evaluate pricing and contract terms, prepare commercial proposals, and participate in counterparty discussions and negotiations in coordination with the origination, finance, and legal teams.
Regulatory, Policy & Market Analysis
  • Track federal, state, and utility-level regulatory and policy developments, including tariffs, incentives, interconnection requirements, and market rules. Assess their implications for project eligibility, economics, and timing, and translate findings into practical recommendations for origination and transaction execution.
  • Analyze changes in energy and capacity markets, pricing, demand, and supply to identify business opportunities, including flexible distributed capacity from behind-the-meter storage. Evaluate where market shifts create attractive customer solutions or revenue opportunities, and communicate the commercial rationale, risks, and recommended next steps to the team.
Financing & Transaction Management
  • Partner with finance to develop and evaluate financing structures and align commercial terms with funding requirements. Incorporate policy and incentive considerations into financial analysis, coordinate supporting diligence, and assess how financing alternatives affect pricing, risk, and project returns.
  • Help manage transactions from proposal and term sheet through executed agreements. Prepare commercial materials and approval summaries, coordinate legal, finance, engineering, and development inputs, and track open terms, diligence items, and deadlines to keep deals moving.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, public policy, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in energy transactions, financial modeling, project finance, power marketing, or energy policy.
  • Strong Excel-based financial modeling skills, including cash-flow projections, scenario analysis, and sensitivity testing; ability to connect model outputs to pricing and financing decisions.
  • Working knowledge of project economics, commercial energy agreements, and power markets; experience participating in counterparty negotiations and evaluating commercial trade-offs.
  • Ability to analyze regulatory, policy, and energy-market developments and translate findings into concise recommendations for commercial and finance teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and ability to coordinate multiple transactions and cross-functional workstreams.
  • Experience with distributed energy, behind-the-meter battery storage, VPPAs, capacity agreements, or broker relationships is a plus.
Tools & Stack (Preferred)
  • CRM and pipeline management tools; Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; LLMs and AI tools, energy-market, tariff, and incentive research tools. Python, SQL, or Power BI a plus.
