Job summary

Transdev is hiring a Training Supervisor in Lawrence, Kansas to ensure all routes meet safety procedures. The role delivers classroom, behind-the-wheel, and hands-on training for new drivers and staff, with a strong emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

The position offers a union payscale of $22.15–$29.60 per hour, with starting pay at $22.15 and progression to $29.60 over five years. Benefits include vacation, medical/dental/vision, life insurance, 401k, and company holidays.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Experience in transportation, safety, training, operations, or a related field.
• Prior experience training, coaching, mentoring, or supervising hourly employees.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B CDL with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements.
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, transportation safety practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver classroom, behind-the-wheel, and hands-on training for new driver hires and existing employees requiring refresher or remedial training.
• Ensure all training is conducted in accordance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate training programs, orientation sessions, road evaluations, and certification activities.
• Maintain accurate training records, attendance logs, certifications, and compliance documentation.
• Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching, feedback, and development plans to improve safety, service, and operational effectiveness.
• Support safety initiatives, including accident investigations, corrective action plans, safety audits, observations, and compliance monitoring.
• Lead and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and ongoing employee development programs.
• Monitor regulatory changes and company procedures to ensure training materials remain current and effective.
• Collaborate with operations, management, and safety teams to identify training needs and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Serve as a safety and compliance resource for drivers, supervisors, and location personnel.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree or related coursework preferred.
• Previous experience in transportation, safety, training, operations, or a related field preferred.
• Prior experience training, coaching, mentoring, or supervising hourly employees.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements.
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, transportation safety practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage deadlines effectively.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to lead classroom presentations and conduct practical, hands-on training in operational environments.
• Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support training schedules and operational requirements.
• Fluent in English; bilingual communication skills are a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
• Sit for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
• Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
• Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
