Job summary

Transdev North America in Minnesota is hiring a Safety Supervisor to ensure regulatory compliance and drive safety programs for drivers. You will schedule activities, investigate incidents, and develop training to reduce risk while liaising with clients and operations management.

The role requires supervisory experience, strong communication, and a solid understanding of DOT/FTA expectations. Expect a full-time schedule with field duties and occasional shifts outside standard hours.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 2-3 years transit supervisory experience preferred.
• Computer literacy with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Familiar with basic vehicle mechanical processes and maintenance.
• Excellent verbal, written and relational communication; fluent in English.
• Willing to work extended hours including weekends and nights.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Communicates job requirements to drivers.
• Manages day-to-day scheduling and evaluations.
• Conducts on-scene accident investigations and reports.
• Designs and delivers driver training and safety courses.
• Monitors driver safety and conducts performance evaluations.
• Liaises between drivers, clients, and management on issues.
• Ensures DOT/FTA compliance and drug testing records.
• Assists with dispatching and clerical tasks as needed.
• Maintains driver qualifications and CDL as required.

The Safety Supervisor ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and company policy. We are looking for customer service-oriented professionals who are dedicated to safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Communicates job requirements and responsibilities to drivers.
• Takes responsibility for day-to-day scheduling, counseling and evaluation reports to local management.
• Conducts on-the-scene accident investigation; assists drivers in preparing accident reports, OSHA reports and safety violations documents.
• Designs and delivers driver training and safety courses; trains new drivers and retrains those involved in accidents.
• Observes drivers on the road, and corrects safety problems on the scene while documenting violations.
• Liaisons between drivers and both clients and organization in customer service issues.
• Evaluates and monitors driver safety and performance, as well as compliance in legal, employment and labor policy matters.
• Responsiblefor DOT/FTA compliance regarding drug testing and recordkeeping.
• Assists in dispatching, driving, interviewing, and miscellaneous clerical tasks as needed.
• Meets all driver qualifications at location.
• Obtains a CDL required to operate vehicles at location, maintains that license, and drives route periodically.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (or equivalent)
• Supervisory experience with hourly employees, with 2-3 years of transit supervisory experience preferred
• Computer literate with working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Familiar with basic vehicle mechanical processes and maintenance
• Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
• Excellent verbal, written and relational communication skills, with ability to appropriately interact with employees of all levels including drivers, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials and general public; fluent in English
• Human resources and training experience
• Work extended hours regularly, including Weekends and Nights.
• Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

• Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions- 85% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
• Sit for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
• Push and pull objects, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
• Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
