Job description

Nikon SLM Solutions is a leading provider of metal based additive manufacturing technology, commonly referred to as 3D printers, utilizing selective laser melting and powder bed fusion technology. Our 3D printers are designed to produce parts directly from a variety of metal powders. The customers for our metal based additive manufacturing systems come from various industries such as aerospace, energy, healthcare, and automotive. Headquartered in Lübeck Germany, Nikon SLM Solutions has approximately 600 employees worldwide.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Training & Documentation Specialist is responsible for developing, coordinating, and continuously improving technical training programs and documentation supporting Nikon SLM Solutions' products, processes, employees, and customers.

This position will work closely with subject matter experts across Service, Engineering, Applications, Manufacturing, Quality, and other technical functions to transform complex technical information into clear, accurate, and accessible training materials, procedures, work instructions, and learning resources.

The ideal candidate does not need to be the technical expert on every Nikon SLM system. Rather, this individual must be skilled at working with technical subject matter experts, understanding complex information, asking the right questions, and translating that knowledge into effective training and documentation for different audiences.

CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve technical training programs for employees, service personnel, and other applicable audiences supporting Nikon SLM equipment and processes.
  • Partner with Service, Engineering, Applications, Manufacturing, Quality, and other subject matter experts to capture technical knowledge and convert it into structured training and documentation.
  • Create and maintain technical manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, troubleshooting guides, process documentation, job aids, presentations, and other learning materials.
  • Design training content for a variety of delivery methods, including instructor-led training, virtual training, e-learning, hands‑on instruction, videos, and self-guided learning.
  • Facilitate technical training sessions and workshops as needed for employees and other applicable audiences.
  • Establish consistent standards and templates for technical documentation and training materials across the organization.
  • Coordinate the review, approval, revision, and release of technical documentation to ensure materials remain accurate and current as products and processes evolve.
  • Support onboarding and technical development programs for Service Engineers and other technical employees.
  • Develop assessments, knowledge checks, practical evaluations, or other methods to measure training effectiveness and employee competency.
  • Maintain training records, curricula, course materials, certifications, and other documentation within applicable learning or document management systems.
  • Gather feedback from trainees, managers, SMEs, and other stakeholders and use those insights to continuously improve training programs and documentation.
  • Support documentation and training requirements associated with quality systems, audits, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.
  • Coordinate training projects involving multiple departments, stakeholders, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the accessibility and efficiency of technical knowledge through digital learning tools, knowledge‑management platforms, and emerging technologies.
  • Help establish a scalable knowledge‑transfer process that captures critical expertise from experienced employees and makes it available to the broader organization.
  • Collaborate with global teams to promote consistency between North American and global training and documentation practices while accommodating regional business needs.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Learning & Development, Instructional Design, Technical Communication, Engineering Technology, Education, Business, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • 4+ years of experience in technical training, instructional design, technical documentation, learning and development, or a related function.
  • Experience developing training and/or documentation within a technical, manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, aerospace, automotive, capital equipment, or similarly complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with technical subject matter experts and translate complex information into clear, understandable learning materials and documentation.
  • Experience developing SOPs, work instructions, technical procedures, training guides, or similar controlled documentation.
  • Strong instructional writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Experience designing and delivering instructor-led and/or digital training.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple training and documentation projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across technical and business functions.
  • Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on accuracy, consistency, and document quality.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience supporting industrial equipment, advanced manufacturing, additive manufacturing, field service, engineering, or other highly technical products.
  • Experience working within a regulated or quality‑controlled environment.
  • Familiarity with document control, revision management, and quality management systems.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), knowledge‑management systems, or digital learning platforms.
  • Experience developing e‑learning content using tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience developing hands‑on technical training for technicians, engineers, or field service personnel.
  • Project management experience or PMP certification.
  • Professional training or instructional certifications such as CompTIA CTT+, CPTD, or similar credentials.
  • Experience working within an international or globally distributed organization.
  • Familiarity with industrial 3D printing or metal additive manufacturing is a plus but not required.
