Job summary

Federal Express Corporation is seeking a yard switcher to move trailers between the yard and docks, with duties including loading and unloading packages as needed.

You will coordinate trailer movements, inspect equipment, and document actions. No prior experience is required, though up to six months in package handling or switching is preferred. A valid driver’s license and DOT compliance are expected.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information in order to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Move trailers between yard, doors, and the dock as assigned.
• Coordinate trailer movements with management and central control.
• Document trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Assist with package handling as needed: load/unload, sort by destination, read labels and charts.
