Job Summary
Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Shop Trailer Mechanic II. This is a dedicated on-site shop position and we do not provide emergency roadside repairs. The Shop Trailer Technician II will be responsible for performing certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties as assigned such as aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, replacement of panels, body, and framework. The Shop Trailer Technician II can perform more advanced repairs under supervision and assists higher-level technicians, continuing to learn advanced mechanical skills. A successful Shop Trailer Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high performance metrics.
Duties
- Follow and comply with all safety operating practices and procedures.
- Determine parts required for each job and coordinate with the Shop Parts Department.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment; assist in cleanup of tools, parts, and equipment.
- Apply knowledge acquired through training or experience to perform job duties; understand technical information.
- Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and allocate time efficiently.
- Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and adhere to ethical standards.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on vehicles.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to standards, upload pictures and details on Repair Orders using company devices and applications.
- Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
- Maintain high productivity levels within standard repair times.
- Communicate with Shop Manager and team for approvals, purchase orders, and notes.
- Work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Participate in safety training.
- Maintain assigned service trucks, conduct safety checks, and perform pre/post trip inspections.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment and systems.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer systems including brakes, air lines, liftgates, and more.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate solutions.
- Inspect, test, and listen to equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
- Assist higher-level technicians with diagnostics.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possess and supply necessary hand tools.
- OEM training and certifications preferred.
- Complete all company-required training.
- Must pass DOT-regulated background screening and physical.
- Valid DOT medical card or valid medical card with more than 4 months remaining.
- At least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record, with a 3-year MVR review.
Certifications
- Required: ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months of hire.
- Preferred: ASE T4, T5, T6, T7, and 608/609 certifications.

- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods.
