Job summary

XPO, Inc. is seeking a Trailer Mechanic Apprentice in Romulus, MI to join our LTL business unit. You will gain hands-on experience inspecting trailers, performing brake work, and completing component replacements, while documenting maintenance and parts usage.

The role offers a structured path toward becoming a Trailer Technician within one to two years. The position requires a valid driver’s license, basic mechanical skills, and flexibility to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and basic mechanical skills.
• Document maintenance, service, and repair activities with basic computer skills.
• Must be able to perform safety inspections and prepare safety documentation.
• Desire to become a trailer mechanic and progress to Technician Level 1.
• Able to work diverse shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist with trailer inspections and brake replacement to gain FMCSA qualification experience.
• Perform component replacements as part of daily duties.
• Maintain, service, and repair trailer doors and SafeStack Systems at docked units.
• Collaborate with shop technicians to complete minor trailer repairs.
• Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activities.
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles as required.
• Keep the work area clean, safe, and well-maintained; report issues to management.
