Job summary

US National Park Service, Bar Harbor, Maine, seeks a Maintenance Worker (Trails) WG-4749-07 to perform independent trail construction and maintenance in backcountry settings. Duties include drainage, tread work, stone steps, and stone walls, following historic standards and cultural guidelines.

The ideal candidate will have experience with drystone masonry, use of common hand tools, and ability to move materials with cable rigging in remote areas.

Qualifications

• Resume must show ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
• Experience building and maintaining trails, drainage, and stone features.
• Experience with drystone masonry and stone shaping.
• Experience moving materials with cable rigging in backcountry.
• Familiarity with common hand tools and trail construction equipment.

Responsibilities

• Work on trails and independently construct and maintain trail features.
• Complete small trail projects from drawings or guidelines.
• Cut and shape stones and use drystone masonry to build trails to historic standards.
• Construct and maintain trail features including drainage, tread, retaining walls, and stone steps.
• Experience with common hand tools and equipment used in trail construction and repair; move materials with cables.
