Job summary

The City of Hampton is seeking a Traffic Signal Electronic Technician Trainee to learn the skills needed to install, maintain, and support traffic signal control equipment throughout the City. You’ll gain hands-on experience and work alongside experienced team members in traffic signal systems, equipment installation, troubleshooting, and roadway safety.

This role is suited for someone who is dependable, mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and comfortable working with tools and technology in

Qualifications

Requires high school graduation or GED.
Some experience in traffic operations preferred.
Electrical/electronic experience preferred.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B within 180 days of employment.
Must be IMSA Signal certified and do so within 24 months of hire date; work zone certified within 6 months of hire date.
Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Responsibilities

Learn to install, maintain and support traffic signal control equipment across the City.
Work with experienced team members to gain hands-on experience in traffic signal systems.
Build knowledge in equipment installation, troubleshooting, and roadway safety.
Be dependable, mechanically inclined, and comfortable using tools in field and shop environments.
