Job summary

The City of Hampton is seeking a skilled Traffic Signal Electronic Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair traffic signal control equipment across the city's transportation network. This role includes sharing technical expertise, training others, and working under supervision to ensure safety and efficiency, with potential evenings and weekend hours.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED with electronics coursework, at least three years of related experience, and

Qualifications

Requires high school graduation or GED with electronics-related coursework equivalent to one year of college.
Minimum of three years of full-time experience in installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electronic systems and traffic signal electronics.
Safety sensitive; subject to alcohol and controlled substances testing per city policy.
Background check required prior to offer or promotion.
Valid driver’s license; maintaining satisfactory driving record per City criteria.
Ability to obtain CDL Class B within 180 days of employment.
Ability to be IMSA Signal certified and obtain work zone certification within 6–18 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair traffic signal control equipment and related systems.
Share technical expertise with others and provide training to ensure best practices.
Work under general supervision and established procedures, balancing technical knowledge, safety, and efficiency.
