Job summary

The City of St. Charles is seeking a Traffic Signal and Lighting Technician in Public Works to install, repair, and maintain city traffic signals, street lighting, electrical signage, and related systems across roadways, parking lots and facilities.

The position is full-time, non-exempt with rotating on-call duties, overtime, and severe weather responses. Candidates should have at least five years in traffic signal or lighting work, a Class A CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements, and

Qualifications

• Licensed Electrician preferred but not mandatory.
• Must be able to troubleshoot and analyze electrical problems in traffic signal and street lighting systems.
• Minimum five years of experience in traffic signals, street lighting, or similar electrical systems preferred.
• Class A CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements required.
• DOT Medical Examiner's Certification required.
• Computer skills and knowledge using Microsoft Office programs.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain City owned traffic signals, street lighting, electrical signage, high mast lighting, high mast cameras at City owned facilities, roadways and parking lots.
• Perform diagnostic testing, installation, scheduled maintenance, and emergency repairs to traffic signals, street lighting, electrical signage, and City facilities.
• Provide guidance for traffic control at City managed job sites and special events, including setup and pickup of barricades and traffic control devices.
• Maintain complete inventory of critical parts and tools for traffic control devices, street signage, signals and lighting.
• Retain accurate records of work orders, service manuals, etc.
• Identify new technologies, equipment, and processes to improve service delivery.
• Continue training and certification programs to improve technical knowledge and skills.
• Knowledgeable of safety standards, procedures and equipment.
• Participation in rotating on-call schedule, overtime, emergencies, severe weather events, and special events.
