S&W Contracting Co, LLC is seeking a Traffic Signal Fiber and Communications Technician Lead for ITS Installations in Murfreesboro, TN. Travel required; full-time position with competitive hourly pay and performance bonus.

You will install, test, and maintain fiber-optic networks for government projects, reading plans and specs to ensure high-quality field installations. Qualified candidates have 5+ years in fiber/ITS, a driver’s license, and readiness to work outdoors in active construction

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in fiber optics, traffic signalization, ITS, telecommunications, or low-voltage systems.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specs, and diagrams.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Outdoor work in active construction zones.

Responsibilities

• Install, route, splice, and test fiber-optic cables and ITS infrastructure.
• Conduct fiber testing with OTDRs and power meters to ensure signal integrity.
• Troubleshoot outages and restore traffic infrastructure efficiently.
• Configure field connections for cameras, detection systems, and signs.
• Interpret plans and diagrams to complete precise field installs.
• Operate lifts and testing tools safely per work-zone protocols.
• Document field progress and report to Field Supervisor.

How You Will Make An Impact

• Install, route, splice, and test fiber-optic cables and communications infrastructure supporting traffic signals and ITS devices.
• Conduct fiber testing using OTDRs, power meters, and diagnostic equipment to ensure signal integrity across networks.
• Troubleshoot complex communication outages and signal loss issues to restore vital traffic infrastructure efficiently.
• Configure and maintain field connections for traffic cameras, vehicle detection systems, and dynamic message signs.
• Interpret construction plans, project specifications, and technical wiring diagrams to complete precise field installations.
• Operate lifts, bucket trucks, and specialized testing tools safely while adhering to strict work-zone traffic protocols.
• Maintain clear field documentation and communicate real-time project progress directly to your Field Supervisor.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in fiber optics, traffic signalization, ITS, telecommunications, or low-voltage systems.
• Proven technical proficiency in fiber splicing, connectorization, and troubleshooting communication networks.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret detailed construction plans, technical specifications, and system diagrams.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in active construction zones

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Professional certifications in fiber optics, telecommunications, electrical systems, or ITS.
• Hands-on experience operating OTDRs, light sources, and advanced fiber optic certification tools.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or willingness to obtain one.
• IMSA Certification (International Municipal Signal Association Certification)
