Job summary

The City of Alexandria’s Traffic Department seeks a hands-on worker to install and maintain traffic signs and markings, and to assist with traffic control during events. You will operate equipment and ensure compliance with MUTCD guidelines.

Requirements include high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and certifications such as IMSA Work Zone Safety and Signs and Marking Level I, with potential for on-the-job training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; city may prefer experience in street maintenance.
• IMSA Work Zone Safety certification within six months of hire.
• Signs and Marking Level I certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Install, replace and maintain traffic signs and pavement markings.
• Paint and mark parking lots, curbs and crosswalks.
• Assist with barricades, detours and traffic control at events.
• Maintain inventory of signs and order replacements as needed.
