Traffic Operations Lead

Regular Full-Time Transportation Eng Lake Mary, FL, US

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our Orlando office.

Our Traffic Operations Lead will serve as an industry-recognized technical leader directing major traffic engineering programs — signal systems, ITS, and corridor and safety studies — statewide, across the US, and internationally. Operating with full autonomy, you'll shape long-term technical strategy and set internal and industry standards for traffic engineering approaches and methods, making authoritative, often precedent-setting decisions. This is an individual-contributor role but you'll mentor junior engineers, manage key client relationships, and drive business strategy for the discipline, while formal management responsibility sits with our separate Director, Transportation Engineering track.

Moffatt & Nichol's professional staff includes engineers, planners, scientists and architects who serve our global client base from offices in Europe, North America, Latin America, and the Pacific Rim. The firm provides clients worldwide with customized service and a level of excellence that have become the firm's hallmark in several primary practice areas – ports and harbors; coastal, environmental and water resources; urban waterfronts and marinas; transportation, bridges and rail; inspection and rehabilitation; and energy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set internal and industry standards for technical approaches and methods in traffic engineering.
  • Apply extensive and diversified knowledge across traffic engineering principles and methods, including signal design, traffic control systems, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
  • Manage a variety of complex traffic engineering programs across the state, the US, and potentially internationally.
  • Direct traffic impact studies, capacity and operations analyses, and corridor/intersection safety evaluations from preliminary through final design.
  • Maintain and establish working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, state DOTs, and private clients, supported by a strong professional network with municipal, state, and federal DOT and regulatory agency staff.
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing signal timing plans, traffic control plans, and signing and pavement markings plans.
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages; coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers; identify schedule and cost variances and implement recommendations for corrective action.
