Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol in Tampa is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will support the design, construction, and execution of mechanical projects across marine, energy, and infrastructure sectors, collaborating with multiple teams locally and globally.

Opportunities to work with Plant 3D, PDS, Revit, and other 3D tools on waterfront facilities and terminals, contributing to quality control and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience in equipment specification, calculations, data sheets and drawings reviews.
  • Design experience in industrial complexes or marine terminals is a plus.
  • Knowledge of process design, P&ID development, and piping design is preferred.
  • Experience with 3D design tools (Plant 3D, Revit, Civil 3D, etc.) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support design development for piping infrastructure and equipment specifications.
  • Design projects using 3D design tools (Plant 3D, PDS, etc.).
  • Assist mechanical design of waterfront facilities (marinas, terminals, pump stations).
  • Assist with condition assessment inspections for oil, gas, and utility infra.
  • Perform 3D modelling and analysis of mechanical systems.
  • Conduct 3D model reviews and interdisciplinary reviews of drawings.
  • Participate in and conduct quality control reviews of deliverables.

We are actively looking for an entry level Mechanical Engineer to join our Tampa office. The Mechanical Engineer supports engineering work involving design, construction, and execution of mechanical projects. Assists during the inspection and research to ensure adherence to law and the standards of good engineering practices. This position will offer the right candidate the chance to work on local, regional, and international projects in the marine, energy, and infrastructure industries. The right candidate must be interested in learning a wide variety of topics the mechanical engineering field and must be comfortable with constant collaboration with multiple teams in and outside the office.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Support design development for projects related to utility and process piping infrastructure, including equipment/materials specification, calculations, data sheets, design and drawing development
  • Design projects involving piping and utility design using either Plant 3D, PDS, or similar three dimensional design tools
  • Assist with mechanical design of waterfront facilities such as marinas, container terminals, marine oil terminals, and pump stations (sewer and storm water)
  • Assist with condition assessment inspections for oil & gas and utility infrastructure
  • Perform 3D modelling and analysis of mechanical systems
  • Conduct 3D model reviews, clash checks and interdisciplinary reviews of developed drawing packages
  • Participate in and conduct quality control reviews of deliverables

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 0 - 2 Years of experience in mechanical engineering
  • Acknowledgement in developing equipment specification, calculation, data sheets, drawings reviews and other documents related to the mechanical design
  • Design experience in industrial complex and / or marine terminals is a plus
  • General understanding of process design, process flow diagram development, and piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) development
  • Experience in piping design and other mechanical equipment; 3D design development experience a plus (Plant 3D, Revit, Civil 3D, etc.)
  • Some planning and task management skills
  • AutoCAD or computer aiding drafting experience
  • Due to client parameters, selected candidate must show (post offer) proof of U.S. citizenship and clear results of a thorough background check that may include but is not limited to credit and criminal history
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
