Job summary

The State of Delaware's Transportation Management Center (TMC) seeks an Engineering/Planning/Surveying Technician. The role involves operating traffic control and traveler information systems, coordinating incidents, and supporting dispatch operations.

This position requires rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and interaction with the public on behalf of the Department. Promotional ladders are available after meeting department standards, with opportunities to advance

Qualifications

  • Six months experience in applied mathematical computations.
  • Six months experience in interpreting construction plans and details, schematics or technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of using intelligent transportation systems to perform transportation management.
  • Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of traffic management solutions.
  • Knowledge of evaluating the effectiveness of traffic control methods and devices including signs or pavement markings.
  • Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects infrastructures to ensure compliance with design plans, materials specifications, safety requirements, construction processes, codes, and reports compliance or deficiencies.
  • Designs or reviews engineering project layouts, profiles, studies, graphs, and related activities.
  • Compiles and records notes, sketches, test results, inspection data for reports and maps.
  • Conducts studies to analyze needs or develop plans and record characteristics.
  • Analyzes data to determine accuracy and develop recommendations.
  • Tests or evaluates quality of materials or designs for contract compliance.
  • Obtains survey data using surveying instruments.
  • Calculates area/volume dimensions and geometry for project specs.
  • Operates CAD equipment and uses software to manage data.
  • Reads and interprets plans, specs, blueprints, and engineering docs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
