Westwood Professional Services, Inc. in San Antonio, TX, is seeking a Traffic Engineering Intern to support signal design, traffic studies, and roadway safety projects for public agencies.

You will work with our traffic engineering team to apply coursework to real-world transportation projects. As an intern, you will learn industry standards, assist in preparing traffic studies, signal plans, and signing/striping plans, and gain foundational proficiency in common design software while traveling

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate Civil Engineering program.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, management, and design team members.
• Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
• Willingness to attend site visits and perform work in outdoor field conditions, including roadside data collection, on occasion.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the collection and analysis of traffic count, turning movement, and travel time data for traffic studies.
• Use AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStations, OpenRoads, or other related software to prepare and check working drawings, details, layouts, and estimates.
• Support preparation of signal timing plans, signing and striping plans, and maintenance of traffic control plans.
• Help develop traffic impact studies and capacity analyses using standard traffic engineering software.
• Develop an understanding of client interests and help identify approaches to address client concerns in the performance of project work.
• Actively coordinate with internal and external team members across public infrastructure projects to ensure effective communication and project progress.
• Travel to project sites as necessary to conduct field observations and interface directly with clients and public agency staff.
