Job summary

Westwood Professional Services is seeking a Traffic Engineering Intern to join our team in Texas. You will assist with traffic studies, signal design, and roadway safety projects for public agencies, applying coursework to real-world projects and learning industry standards in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities include data collection, drafting with AutoCAD/Civil3D, and contributing to signal timing plans while working with Senior Engineers.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate Civil Engineering program or related field.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the collection and analysis of traffic count, turning movement, and travel time data for traffic studies.
• Use AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStations, OpenRoads, or other related software to prepare and check working drawings, details, layouts, and estimates.
• Support preparation of signal timing plans, signing and striping plans, and maintenance of traffic control plans.
• Help develop traffic impact studies and capacity analyses using standard traffic engineering software.
• Develop an understanding of client interests and help identify approaches to address client concerns in the performance of project work.
• Actively coordinate with internal and external team members across public infrastructure projects to ensure effective communication and project progress.
• Travel to project sites as necessary to conduct field observations and interface directly with clients and public agency staff.
