Job summary

Horrocks in Pleasant Grove, UT is seeking a mid-level Traffic Engineer with 4+ years of experience to support traffic signals, roadway lighting, and ITS projects. You will collaborate with senior engineers and clients to deliver safe, efficient traffic solutions across Utah and the western region.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree (ABET), a PE license or plan to obtain, and strong skills in MUTCD and design software. A competitive package with a sign-on bonus is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 4+ years of professional experience in traffic or transportation engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
• Experience with ITS, traffic signal, and roadway lighting projects.
• MUTCD, FHWA guidance, AASHTO standards, and DOT design criteria knowledge.
• Proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Agi32 or similar software.
• Experience with traffic analysis tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, or SIDRA is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic engineering analysis and design with a focus on ITS, traffic signal systems, and roadway lighting.
• Prepare detailed plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical memoranda, and reports.
• Design traffic signal layouts, timing plans, and interconnect systems per agency standards.
• Develop roadway and intersection lighting designs with photometric calculations.
• Support project managers with coordination, scheduling, and budget tracking.
• Independently perform tasks to complete primary design elements for projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, agencies, and utilities to advance delivery.
• Apply MUTCD, FHWA, AASHTO standards throughout development.
• Participate in client and agency meetings and contribute to technical discussions.
• Support quality control reviews and ensure complete deliverables.
