Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Intermediate Traffic Engineer in Atlanta, GA to join a team working on Georgia’s largest and most complex transportation projects. You will assist with traffic signal design, system timing, ITS planning, and signage/pavement marking where needed.

This role emphasizes data analysis, reporting, and collaboration across disciplines. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s in engineering, 1–3 years of experience, and an Engineer in Training certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of DOT advisory circulars and procedures.
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, processes, and design/build related to traffic control equipment, capacity and operational analysis, project management, and related communications systems.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of roadway construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Effective communication with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, manage multiple priorities, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office software, and math principles.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and related design software.
  • Proven safety record and ability to work beyond typical hours if needed.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from sites, surveys, GIS data, and maps for project development and construction.
  • Support investigation of site conditions to ensure compliance with regulations and permits.
  • Assist with traffic modeling, signal design, and operating strategies for safety and functionality.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, and DOT authorities on transportation projects.
  • Prepare data and visuals for reports, memos, and presentations.
  • Maintain quality control for measurements, analysis, and reporting.
  • Contribute to technical reports and recommendations for design or construction challenges.
  • Assist in field investigations and action planning for risk mitigation.
  • Support health and safety plans and project documentation.
