Job summary

Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber is seeking a Traffic Engineer in Grand Rapids, MI to join its Transportation Department. You will support and lead traffic engineering projects, including studies, modeling, forecasting, and signal operations, while coordinating with clients and partners.

The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering and at least 2 years of traffic engineering experience. MDOT knowledge and software proficiency are preferred, with opportunities for growth and client interaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
• 2+ years of traffic engineering experience.
• Experience with the ITE Trip Generation Manual and traffic studies.
• Preferred knowledge of MDOT traffic standards and guidelines.
• Experience with Highway Capacity Software, Synchro, Vissim, Rodel, and MicroStation software.
• Excellent computer, planning, verbal communication, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare traffic impact studies, safety studies, signal optimization analyses, and traffic forecasts.
• Perform intersection and roadway traffic modeling.
• Conduct roundabout analysis and geometric evaluations.
• Develop maintenance of traffic plans using traffic data.
• Write reports and support traffic signal design and operations.
• Interact with clients, including MDOT, local agencies, consulting partners, and contractors.
• Assist with project budgets, schedules, and technical proposals.
• Manage tasks, mentor staff, and collaborate with transportation professionals across Fishbeck offices.
