Job summary

Fishbeck is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation team in Michigan. You will lead complex traffic engineering projects from concept through construction, mentor staff, and collaborate with clients and agencies across Michigan.

Responsibilities include maintaining traffic plans, MDOT conformity, studies, cost estimates, and coordinating with offices. A PE license in Michigan and 10+ years of experience are required, with proficiency in MicroStation and Civil 3D a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 10+ years of traffic engineering experience, including MDOT-related projects.
• Michigan Professional Engineer license required.
• Proficiency in MicroStation; AutoCAD/Civil 3D a plus.
• Strong knowledge of MDOT traffic standards and guidelines.
• Experience with Highway Capacity Software and Synchro; TransModeler a plus.
• Familiarity with the ITE Trip Generation Manual and traffic studies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with ITS and highway lighting design is a plus.

Working with our Transportation team in Michigan, you will lead complex transportation design projects from concept through construction, support client relationships, mentor junior staff, and help grow Fishbeck’s Michigan transportation practice.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the design and development of traffic engineering components, including maintenance of traffic plans, signing and pavement marking layouts, and traffic signal systems.


• Ensure project work complies with MDOT standards, the Michigan Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and applicable design guidelines.


• Conduct traffic impact studies, safety studies, signal optimization, and traffic forecasting.


• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and construction cost estimates.


• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and communication.


• Mentor and support junior staff while coordinating with other disciplines and regional offices.

What We’re Looking For
