Job summary

Fishbeck is seeking a Traffic Engineer in Michigan to lead complex transportation design projects from concept through construction within our Transportation team in Michigan. You will mentor junior staff, manage scope, and collaborate with clients and agencies to deliver high-quality solutions.

Requirements include a Civil Engineering degree, 10+ years in traffic engineering, and a Michigan PE license. Proficiency in MicroStation and knowledge of MDOT standards are essential; AutoCAD/Civil3D

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 10+ years of traffic engineering experience, including MDOT-related projects.
• Michigan Professional Engineer license required.
• Proficiency in MicroStation; experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of MDOT traffic standards and guidelines.
• Experience with Highway Capacity Software and Synchro; TransModeler is a plus.
• Familiarity with the ITE Trip Generation Manual, complex maintenance of traffic design, and traffic studies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with intelligent transportation systems and highway lighting design is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Ensure project work complies with MDOT standards, the Michigan Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and applicable design guidelines.
• Conduct traffic impact studies, safety studies, signal optimization, and traffic forecasting.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and construction cost estimates.
• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and communication.
• Mentor and support junior staff while coordinating with other disciplines and regional offices.
• Collaborate with clients, local agencies, and contractors to deliver high-quality solutions.

Working with our Transportation team in Michigan, you will lead complex transportation design projects from concept through construction, support client relationships, mentor junior staff, and help grow Fishbeck’s Michigan transportation practice.
